Context
This was created for my typography class at SVA. The assignment was to create promotional material for a musician. I chose Simon and Garfunkel because I wanted to reinvent their brand and their actual promotional material was simply photos of themselves. I felt that there was a lot of room for creative license.

Process
These were some original concept sketches for the project. My original idea was very literal by trying to show a bridge. When given feedback by my professor, he convinced me to combine the sadness and isolation that is present in the music with something optimistic. I was then inspired to think metaphorically in order to tell a story with the pieces.

In the end, I decided to combine hand lettering and metaphors. Work in progress shots are displayed. The issue with these was that my idea was not well communicated or too literal. For example, since Simon and Garfunkel is synonymous with New York, it was unnecessary to add New York City imagery to the background.

Visual
The final projects can be seen below. I have added each metaphor that the projects are supposed to convey.
